Smith, Carangelo arent Red Flashes in the Pan

BY JEFF FALK
Lebanon County doesn’t produce all that many Division One basketball players. So having two compete for the same program is extremely rare.
Yet that’s exactly what Lebanon natives Allison Smith and Hailey Carangelo are pulling off right now. Both Smith, a greaduate of Cedar Crest, and Carangelo, a product of Lebanon Catholic, are members of Saint Francis University’s Division One women’s basketball team.
And not unlike their origins in the County, Smith and Carangelo are filling two uniquely different roles for the Red Flash.
Smith is a 5-10 senior guard/forward who has started all but one game for Saint Francis. She sees substantial playing time on a nightly basis and averages about four points and four rebounds per outing.
Carangelo is a 5-9 freshman guard who received a medical red-shirt last season, her first year at Saint Francis. A role player, Carangelo plays sparingly and continues to seek an increase in her minutes.
The Red Flash is off to a 6-9 start in 2011-12. But Saint Francis, which is located in Loretto, PA, is 3-1 in the Northeast Conference.
