Rivera Plays Hero, as Fifth Ward Edges Richland

There’s nothing quite like a walk-off, especially when it is of the come-from-behind variety.
On Wednesday, Bryan Rivera’s bases-clearing double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Fifth Ward a thrilling comeback victory over Richland in Lebanon County American Legion baseball action. Rivera’s game-deciding hit helped the home side rally from two separate deficits.
With the win, Fifth Ward improved to 2-4 in the early going of the local legion baseball league. Richland slipped to 1-6.Game faces required
After erasing an early 4-0 deficit to take a 5-4 edge in the bottom of the sixth inning, Fifth Ward surrendered a three-run Richland rally in the top of the seventh. But Rivera’s heroics made a winner out of starter Ben Berkheimer, who went the distance.
In addition to Berkheimer, teammates Sean Maulfair and Nate Roman each collected a pair of safeties for the Golden Gophers. Fifth Ward overcame four errors afield.
