Jolly Molly Set to Relive Good Old Days

BY JEFF FALK

The glory days of  fast-pitch softball in Lebanon County are long gone. But apparently not forgotten.

The former Jolly Molly fast-pitch softball team is getting together for a reunion that will commemorate its Class A national championship of 25 years ago. The event will be held at All About You Catering, on East Lehman Street in Lebanon, on Saturday, August 25th.

Lebanon-based Jolly Molly garnered the 1987 national title in Redding, California. The Mollies’ 7-0 run through the 40-team Class A national tournament was culminated by their 4-1 triumph over Magna-Plating of Burbank, California.

That season, Jolly Molly compiled an amazing record of 92-6. But five of those setbacks came at the hands of local rivals from the Lebanon City-County Fast-pitch League.

A day after winning the national championship, Jolly Molly returned to Lebanon and captured the City-County playoff championship with a dramatic victory over Wet Your Whistle, on a walk-off home run from the bat of Fred Bowers.

As a franchise, Jolly Molly won two district championships, state crowns in 1978, 1980 and 1984, claimed the Central Atlantic Regional tournament in 1980 and appeared in the national tournament five times. In 1975, Jolly Molly pieced together a 47-game win skein.
