A sparse crowd of 2,764 Rochester fans watched the hometown Americans blitz the Bears 5-1 Wednesday night to end the Hershey’s four-game road trip with a 2-2 record.

The teams skated through a scoreless opening period before the Amerks beat Bears’ netiminder Pheonix Copley three times in the space of 6 ½ minutes to take control of the contest.

Kevin Porter converted on Rochester’s third power play opportunity of the night at the 7:58 mark. Exactly five minutes later, Sean Malone made it 2-0, then Scott Wilson put the puck past a screened Copley at 14:34.

C.J. Smith increased Rochester’s lead to 4-0 midway through the third stanza before Jonsson-Fjallby’s fourth goal of the season ended goalie Jonas Johansson’s bid for a shutout.

With 47 seconds left to play Rochester closed out the 5-1 win on Brett Murray’s first goal of the season.

Final shots on goal were 29-20 Americans. Bears special teams finished the night 0-for-2 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The Bears will host the Utica Comets Saturday at Giant Center with a start time of 7 p.m.
