When ESU Needs Hitter, Walewski Will Do in a Pinch

 BY JEFF FALK

Matt Walewski’s time is coming. But until it gets here, the former Cedar Crest star has decided to prepare so he’s ready.

Walewski is a red-shirt freshman infielder on the East Stroudsburg baseball squad, who is discovering creative ways to contribute to the Warriors’ success. What that has translated into recently has been pinch-hitting.

Walewski was in line for playing time this fall, before injuring a shoulder that required surgery. Now healthy, Walewski is behind a solid group of juniors and seniors on the East Stroudsburg depth chart.

East Stroudsburg, 29-16 overall and 13-11 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, is currently ranked seventh in the NCAA Division Two Atlantic Region. The Warriors, seeded third in the East division, recently opened play in the PSAC tournament against Gannon, the second seed out of the West.

In 2010 and 20111, Walewski, a psychology major, played on Cedar Crest teams that won District Three Class AAAA, Lancaster-Lebanon League and Section One championships.
