It may be the biggest letdown in all of Lebanon County sports.
Local teams enter it with high hopes. And they exist it with wounded egos.
On Sunday afternoon, two Lebanon County entrants were unceremoniously – and almost simultaneously – bounced from in the eight-team, double-elimination Region Four American Legion baseball tournament being contested at Earl Wenger Memorial Field in Fredericksburg. County champion Annville and host team Fredericksburg each went 0-2 in the event and were outscored by their opponents by a combined margin of 47-28.
By all accounts, the local clubs did not pitch effectively or field efficiently. Annville and Fredericksburg were the first two teams eliminated.
It’s been 18 years since the last Lebanon County team has won a Region Four championship. In the 34-year history of the tournament, the locale has claimed a total of just three titles.
Annville finished its year 13-8, while Fredericksburg went 11-11.
