Palmyra senior student-athletes Connor Strynkowski and Shawn Mayer are gearing up for a memorable post-season. Heck, they’ve already had them.
On Saturday at Carlisle High School, Strynkowski and Mayer each scored their second gold medals of the scholastic post-season, during the Mid-Penn Conference Track and Field Championships. Strynkowski, the Cougars’ distance specialist, finished first in his favorite event, the 3200-meter run, while Mayer pole vaulted to victory with a 15-7 effort.
Two weeks ago at Lebanon High School, Mayer and Strynkowski won those exact same events at the Lebanon County track and field meet.
Entering the weekend’s District Three Class AAA championships at Shippensburg University, Strynkowski will be the top seed in the 3200-meter run and the third seed in the 1600-meter run. Saturday’s effort, which was also good enough to edge Cougar teammate and runner-up Tim Moses, gave Mayer the top seed heading into the Class AAA pole vault competition.
Also at stake this weekend for Mayer and Strynkowski will be berths in next week’s PIAA Championships, back at Shippensburg’s Seth Grove Stadium.
