The Coronavirus pandemic recently claimed another event when the Central Chapter PA Sports Hall of Fame cancelled its 50th annual induction and awards ceremony, which had been scheduled for November 9 at the Rodeway Inn-Clarion Hotel in Lebanon.
“We held off making the decision as long as we could, until it became obvious that there would not be enough time for all health and safety issues to be made, plus the pre-banquet things we had to do, like banners and awards,” said program chairman Glenn Beidler. “The voting by the chapter’s membership, which totals around 500, took place as usual, prior to the pandemic, so what we have done is inform those to be inducted this year that we will hold them over for induction next November. This iss what the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame decided for their ceremony, and we felt it was also the appropriate decision for our local chapter.”
This year’s six inductees into the local chapter’s hall of fame include Ed Bouchette, Frank Etchberger, Jeffrey Fortna, Ken Kulina, Paula Light and Suzanne Sutcliffe. The recipient of the Mathers/Shollenberger Award for community service is Ed Werth, while CholeAnn McCoy clamed the Joseph Uhler, Jr. Courageous Athlete award.
