Too often, Lebanon County student-athletes enjoy great scholastic careers and then we somehow lose track of them when they matriculate to the next level. It would seem the story of Isaac Wengert fits that bill.

Wengert, a 2016 graduate of Northern Lebanon High School and a resident of Jonestown, recently completed a highly successful spring baseball campaign at Bethany College in West Virginia. A junior right-handed pitcher, it was Wengert’s third season with the Bison.

Wengert emerged as the ace of Bethany’s pitching staff. Over 75 innings of work, the former Viking compiled a 6-2 record with one save.

During his 15 appearances, Wengert started 12 games, struck out 41 hitters and sported a 3.60 ERA. For his career, Wengert now has 12 wins, seven complete games, 80 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.03.

This spring, Wengert’s prowess on the mount helped Bethany to a 27-16 overall record and a 14-10 mark and second-place finish in the Presidents Athletic Conference. For the second year in-a-row, Wengert was named to the PAC’s second-team.

During his time at Northern Lebanon, Wengert starred on both the Vikings’ baseball and football teams. Wengert also enjoyed a highly successful career with Fredericksburg in the Lebanon County American Legion Baseball League.
