Trailing 1-0 after two periods in Saturday’s pre-season test with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Giant Center ice, the Bears pulled even in the third period to force overtime, where they claimed a 2-1 victory.
As in Friday’s contest, the teams skated through a scoreless opening frame before the Pens scored with 10 seconds remaining in the second frame, on a tough angle shot by Kasper Bjorkqvist that beat Parker Milner on the short-side.
Twenty seconds into a third-period power play, Matt Moulson deflected a shot from Joe Snively past Penguins goaltender Alex D’Orio at 7:56 to tie it 1-1.
In the overtime, with the teams skating 3-on-3, Garrett Pilon sent a head-man pass to Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, who scored the game-winner to complete the 2-1 comeback win for the Bears.
Hummelstown native Dillon Fox got his first taste of playing against AHL completion and admitted he had a few butterflies going into his initial shift. “I think you’d be crazy if you didn’t,” said Fox,”but it was great once I got into it. I had to get the emotions out in the first period but after that I settled in and actually had some good chances to score. For me to get some chances here in Hershey was awesome.”
The Bears close out their three-game pre-season schedule when they travel to Lehigh Valley for a Monday night contest, before opening the regular season Saturday on home ice against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
