For the first time in three preseason contests, the Hershey Bears took a 1-0 first period lead, then finished with a 2-0 road win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Monday.
Vitek Vanecek recorded the shutout for the Bears, stopping all 26 shots he faced to help Hershey complete the three-games with a 2-1 record.
Colby Williams fed Joe Snively, who beat Phantoms netminder Felix Sandstrom at 14:53 with Snively picking up the secondary helper for his second point of the night. Earlier, he had fed Penn State product Casey Bailey for a tap in near the goalmouth, at 5:47 of the middle period.
On the goal, Garrett Pilon also collected his second assist of the game and third of the preseason.
The Bears finished the night 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill, as they now prepare for the regular season-opening game Saturday, when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins visit Giant Center for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
