Falcons Still Flying High on Winter’s Momentum

BY JEFF FALK

A great run through a spectacular season? Or the beginning of truly turning the program around?

Apparently the Cedar Crest boys’ basketball team is more than a one-hit wonder.

The United Ballers, an AAU basketball team based in South Lebanon and made up of members of the Falcon boys’ basketball squad, recently won the championship of the AAU Division Three National tournament, contested in Hampton, Virginia. The United Ballers defeated the Brick Shore Stars of New Jersey 61-49 in the championship game to complete a 7-0 run through the event.

The United Ballers qualified for the tournament by winning the 12-team East Coast AAU national tournament and the Mid-Atlantic super regional in Chester. Playing together since Cedar Crest’s historic run to the PIAA Class AAAA playoffs in March, the United Ballers went a combined 34-6 this summer.

The ‘Summer Falcons’ consisted of CCHS seniors- and juniors-to-be Josh Bucher, Dominic Garloff, Jimmy Kern, Marq Kintzer, Nick Miller, Soren Frost, Andrew Eberhart, Evan Horn, Rayme Ferrieri, Nikolaj Madsen and Ryan Gonzalez. The United Ballers were coached by Kris Bucher and Steve Miller.

“This is a road map to success for the high school team,” said coach Kris Bucher. “It was all about the hard work they (the players) put in during the off season.”

The United Ballers program sponsors AAU boys and girls teams from grades four through eleven.
