Support. Attention to details. A willingness to provide boundaries for kids. Leading, without controlling.
Those are aspects of Doug Bohannon’s everyday life that he sometimes takes for granted. But they are qualities that the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association certainly took notice of.
The Pennsylvania State Atheletic Directors Association – or PSADA- recently named Elco’s long-time AD its Athletic Director of the Year. The PSADA will honor Bohannon at the 46th edition of its annual banquet, in Hershey on March 14.
A Raider through and through, Bohannon has served as the school district’s athletic director for the past 16 years. In the past, Bohannon had been recognized as the top athletic director in the Lancaster-Lebanon League, District Three and Pennsylvania’s Region Four.
Bohannon is currently the vice president of the Lancaster-Lebanon League and is actively involved in the circuit’s board of control. He has also served as the league’s chairman for track and field, in addition to being named the conference’s finest AD in 2011 and 2005.
At the District Three level, Bohannon is the chairperson for tennis and the co-chair for bowling.
The 46-year-old Bohannon graduated from Elco and starred as a quarterback on the Raiders’ football team during the mid-1980s. He matriculated to California University of Pennsylvania, where he walked on to the school’s Division Two football program.
A life-long native of Myerstown, Bohannon resides there with his wife Stephanie and their two teen-aged sons, Brett and Braden. Doug is the son of Marlin and Catherine Bohannon.
