College Interests Piling Up for Pyles

BY JEFF FALK

With summer just underway,  is it too early to start thinking about football? One gets the distinct impression that football is never too far from Mark Pyles’ thoughts.

Pyles, a senior-to-be at Lebanon High School, may be Lebanon County’s top football player. He is certainly one of the county’s most highly recruited.

Interest from colleges about Pyles continue to stream in. Currently, more than 20 universities, mostly Division One-AA institutions in the east, have expressed interest in Pyles, in one form or another.

The list of schools which have contacted Pyles includes Lafayette, Holy Cross, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Boston College, Syracuse, Bucknell, Lehigh, Colgate, Delaware, Fordham, Villanova, Penn State, William and Mary, Temple, Dartmouth, Stony Brook, Yale, Richmond, Harvard, Princeton, Penn and Rutgers. To date, Pyles has committed to attend college summer camps at Penn, Princeton, Syracuse, Bucknell, Lehigh and Lafayette.

Pyles, a hard-nosed quarterback for the the Cedars, is being considered by the colleges for his offensive prowess, his defensive play as a safety and for his overall athletic ability.
