At a recent meeting of the Central Chapter PA Sports Hall of Fame, the more than 400 members voted the following to be the inductees for the 2016 chapter’s hall of fame. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lebanon Days Inn.
Clifford Ainsworth Jr. – Coached Milton Hershey football -28 yrs,, baseball – 19 yrs., Basketball – 5 yrs. Athletic Director since December 2000. 2016 received AD of the Year- Mid Penn Conference, Districts, and PSADA Regional AD of the Year. MPC Wrestling Chairman, District 3 Wrestling Steering Committee. Host District 3 Team Wrestling Championships, Mid Penn Basketball Playoffs, D3 Field Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball Playoffs and Soccer. Host PIAA State games for Field Hockey, Soccer, and Basketball. Published “The Complete Book of Drills for Winning Baseball’. Member MHS Spartan Hall of Fame, Inducted Capital Area Sports Hall of Fame – 2014. Cedar Crest High School–Football , Basketball, Baseball (8 varsity letters). Threw 2 no-hitters. University of Delaware – lettered in Football.
Robert Bare – Lancaster- Lebanon League Section 2 Wrestling All Star at Northern Lebanon, 2 time Division 3 Scholastic All-American at Messiah College and ran Cross Country and Track. Cedar Crest Cross Country head coach 12 years with 220- 53 record, was named L-L League 2001 Coach of the Year. Since 1995 has been Track and Field coach for Falcons, winning 21 Lebanon County Championships, 10 Section 1 titles, 4 L-L Championships, 3 District 3 Championships and coached 4 individual PIAA Triple-A champions and one 4 x 800 meter team.
Samuel Elias – Athletic Director -30 Years Athletic Director, former Chairman District III 2008 -2013, Vice-Chairman District III 2005- 2008. Member PIAA Board of Directors 2005-2013. State Athletic Director of the Year -2007. State Athletic Director Distinguished Service Award -2006. Eastern States Athletic of the Year 2008. One of 5 Athletic Directors in the nation Honored as AD of the Year 2008. Mid-Penn AD of the Year 2006. Certified Master Athletic Administrator. Former Chairman District III Field Hockey, Softball, Boys/Girls Lacrosse and Mid-Penn Field Hockey. Inducted Capital Area Chapter, East Stroudsburg Wrestling and Hershey Athletic Halls of Fame. Coached 5 State Wrestling Champions, 1 State Football Champion and 1 State Softball Champion.
Mike Seigfried – Coaching- Head Soccer Coach ELCO High School 1986- 2011. PIAA State Champions 1986, 1998 & 2003 (runnerup 2002). 5 District Championships & League Section Titles. Founded and coached ELCO United Soccer Club 1994 – 2011. PA. State High School Coach of the Year 1994, 2004, 2011. PSAHPERD –Excellence in Coaching Award in 2004. NSCAA – National High School Merit Award 2010. PA Soccer Coaches Association –Hall of Fame & Honor Award 2014 . Founded & directed Eastern Lebanon Soccer School 1987 – present. NSCAA State Technical Coordinator and Nationall Staff. Head Soccer Coach Philadelphia Community College 1982 -1985. PA Junior College Champions 1985 (runnerup 1984). Currently assistant coach under Dave Hartlaub at Conestoga Valley High School.
Ashli (Schwab) Shay– Basketball- Penn State University -4 year team member, 3 year starter, Academic All Big 10 Team. Big 10 Champions 2003 & 2004. 4 NCAA Tournament appearances, 3 times NCAA Sweet 16, 1 time NCAA Elite 8. ELCO High School- 2,169 career points, 1163 rebounds, 54.7 % career FG, 84.5 % career FT. 3 time Patriot News Big 15 Team, Number 42 ranked player nationally as a senior by Woman’s Basketball Journal, Nike All-American 2000, USA Today Honorable Mention All- American 2000 & 2001. All-State Team 2000 & 2001. All County, All Section, All League Teams, 2 time PIAA District III Champs, 3-time LL Section 3 Champions, PIAA State Runner up, LL League Champions 1 time.
Blaine Peffley – Golf-2-time District 3 tournament winner; three-time Lebanon-Lancaster tournament champion; 2001 PIAA State champion; won 3 national level AJCA tournament. 2001 PA High School Player of the Year. Lebanon Co. Amateur champ 2000 & 2004. 2001 McDonald’s Tournament of Champions winner. Turned pro in 2007; Rookie of Year on NGA (Hooters) tour. Reached final stage of Qualifying School for PGA Tour in 2009; 2010 qualified for U.S. Open.
Mike McHugh – Hockey- Played 5 years for Hershey Bears; captain of the 1996-97 Calder Cup team and was the playoff MVP; also played 2 years with Springfield in the AHL and 3 for Lalamaz00 in the IHL. Inducted into the University of Maine Hall of Fame; 1988 Hockey East and New England Player of the Year.
Frederic Cassivi – Inductee of Distinction (does not go through the voting process). 2014 AHL Hall of Fame inductee; played 15 seasons, 6 of those with Hershey, more than 650 games, mostly in the AHL; one of 7 goaltenders to play 500 games in the AHL. Is 5th in AHL with 232 wins; was the 2005-06 Calder Cup MVP when the Bears won the Cup.
