Carly Richardson Tabbed as All-State Performer

BY JEFF FALK

She is the consummate team player. And because of that, Carly Richardson has earned one of the top individual honors in Pennsylvania.

Richardson, a 5-10 junior wing on the Palmyra girls’ basketball team, was recently named to the Pennsylvania Sportswriters’ All-State Class AAA third team. Under Richardson’s direction, the Cougars won 29 straight games to open the 2012-13 campaign, one which ended with a 40-36 setback to Scranton Prep in the second-round of the PIAA Class AAA tournament.

During the season, Richardson, a deadly outside shooter and a tenacious rebounder, poured in an average of 15.4 points per game, grabbed 9.4 caroms per outing, drained 49 three-pointers and shot 37 percent from beyond the arc. Richardson, a three-year starter and tri-captain, also made 77 percent of her free throws and shot 44 percent from the field.

Richardson recorded the 1,000th point of her career during Palmyra’s District Three Class AAA championship game at Giant Center. In addition to the district crown, Palmyra also won Mid-Penn Conference and Keystone Division titles.

Earlier this postseason, Richardson was selected to Lebanon Sports Buzz’s all-Lebanon County team. She is also Lebanon Sports Buzz’s reigning girls Player of the Year.
