Doug Bohannon has alway taken an ambitious approach to his work. Now that ambition will take him beyond the friendly confines of Myerstown.

Bohannon, the athletic director at Elco, was recently named the chairman of District Three. The appointment became official on July 1st, after the District Three committe had unanimously affirmed it on April 24th.

Over the past 17 years, Bohannon has served District Three in a number of different capacities, as its vice-president, tennis chairman and co-chairman for bowling. Bohannon replaces Dr. Ron Kennedy, who stepped down as District Three chairman to focus on his duties as athletic director at Donegal and his new role as the executive director of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

“I am excited about the opportunity to be the Chairman of District III,” Mr. Bohannon said in a press release from District Three. “We have an awesome committee, and the team surrounding me will be a great transition into the chairmanship. Ron Kennedy is an individual that I can rely upon to help with that transition.  Pat Tulley, our vice-chairman, has a wealth of knowledge in interscholastic athletics in both District III and PIAA issues.”

Bohannon, a graduate of Elco and a resident of Myerstown, holds a Master’s Degree in Science Sports Administration from West Chester University and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education from California (Pa.) University. He has been the athletic director at ELCO for the past 22 years.

District Three encompasses the entire Lebanon, Lancaster, Reading, Harrisburg and York area as part of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, the governing body for scholastic sports in the state.
