Boehmer Headed to Baltimore, to Become a Retriever

BY JEFF FALK

Over the years, Lebanon County hasn’t sent all that many female soccer players on to the collegiate ranks. Count Gabby Boehmer among that growing number.

Boehmer, a senior-to-be at Cedar Crest, recently verbally committed to continue her athletic and academic careers at Division One University of Maryland, Baltimore County. A center midfielder and prolific scorer, Boehmer has been in the middle of the success that the Falcons have experienced over the past two seasons.

“I went to camp there and really liked the coaches and drills,” said Boehmer in an exclusive interview with Lebanon Sports Buzz. “They asked me to come down for a visit. And the players were very welcoming. I liked them academically and athletically. It was the best fit for me, all the way around.”

Before settling on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Boehmer also considered Drexel, Hofstra and Navy.

“I think I always wanted to play soccer in college,” said Boehmer. “But I needed to find a school that fit me athletically and academically. It was important for me to play soccer at a high level.”

So not unlike her prowess around the net, the timing of Boehmer’s college decision was of the utmost importance to her. While it may have been a dream for her to play at the Division One level since she was young, it was also important for Boehmer to make a decision before the Falcons began their summer workouts.

“I didn’t really have a time frame,” said Boehmer. “But throughout the process, I wanted to get it done. For UMBC, it took me a little time to consider the offer. But I didn’t want to rush into anything.”
