Bears Emerge From COVID-19 Hibernation With Win

On Tuesday night the Hershey Bears began a busy four-game week with a 4-1 road victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Joe Snively scored for Hershey 11:48 into the first period to extend his point streak to six games. Mike Vecchione picked up his 11th assist of the season with a pass to the slot for Snively’s eighth goal of the season.

L ate in the second period the Bears scored twice, separated by just 62 seconds, to grab a 3-0 lead.. At 18:39, Kody Clark scored his fourth goal of the season with a shot from behind the net that bounced off Penguins goalie Matt Jurusik rolled over the goal line.  

At 19:41, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby’s unassisted tally gave the Bears a three-goal edge.

The Penguins ended Phoenix Copley’s shutout bid at 17:18 of the third period, with a goal from the left point by Pierre-Olivier Joseph.

Before Wilkes-Barre/Scranton could pull their goaltender for the extra attacker, Bears captain Matt Moulson rounded out the scoring at 18:35 ,with assists going to Shane Gersich and Vecchione. Final shots on goal totaled 26-19 in favor of the Bears. 

Hershey returns to action on Friday with a 7:05 p.m. road tilt against the Springfield Thunderbirds, then close out the week with home games against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday and Rochester on Sunday.

Bears Notes: Copley came within 2:42 of recording his tenth shutout in a Hershey uniform, which would have tied him with Peter Budaj for ninth place on the Bears’ all-time list.
