At District Diving, Cougar Briana Urich Sticks the Splash

BY JEFF FALK

It almost seems like any more that when District Three conducts a championship, there’s a Palmyra Cougar near or at the top of the medal podium. Add diving and Briana Urich to that growing list.

Urich, a freshman diver on the Cougars’ girls’ swimming team, recently claimed the District Three Class AA championships at Big Spring High School. Urich, who has competed in the sport for just three short months after dropping gymnastics due to injuries, topped the other four divers in her one-meter competition.

Urich accumulated 292.55 points over her 11 dives. Urich easily out distanced runner-up Emily Johns of Schuylkill Valley, who totaled 270.70 points.

Urich took command of the competition after sticking a forward, 2.5-tuck in the second round.

On March 13-16, at Bucknell University, Urich will compete in the PIAA Class AA diving championships.
