It was one for the ages. Plus one to satisfy that instant-gratification urge as well.
Or one could say that Cait Paine set a record in style.
Paine, a graduate of Lebanon High School, recently established the Bloomsburg University softball program’s all-time mark for strikeouts in a career, and she did so during a no-hitter. Paine, a senior chucker for the Huskies, set the strikeout record during a 2-0 triumph over Goldey-Beacom.
During the no-no, the former Cedar star, sat down 13 hitters. That total gave her 690 career strikeouts, ten more than the old mark.
It was also Paine’s third no-hitter of her collegiate career. Earlier this season, she fired a perfect game at Bowie State.
So far for the 24-10 Huskies, Paine has compiled an 11-6 personal mark and a 1.26 earned run average. Of those 17 decisions, 15 have been complete games, and she has whiffed 194 batters in 127 innings this spring.
