It has been a bit of a peculiar start to the 2011-12 campaign for the Hershey Bears. But a rousing one, nonetheless.
The area entrant in the American Hockey League is off to a very good 5-1-1 start, and currently leads the East Division by two points over Norfolk. But the Bears have found the road much more comfortable than the friendly confines of Giant Center.
Of Hershey’s five wins, four have come on the road, and the Bears have yet to lose away from Giant Center. At home, Hershey is 1-1-1.
The Bears have been getting it done with a potent offense, hard-working special teams and solid goal-tending. Right now, Hershey leads the AHL in power-play goals with 13 and is second in the league overall with 30 goals.
With five goals and eight assists, Hershey’s Chris Bourque is the AHL’s leading scorer. Teammate Keith Aucoin is fourth in the league with three goals, eight assists and 11 total points.
The Bears will end the month of October with a dreaded ‘three-in-three’. On Friday, Hershey will visit Springfield, followed by a trip to Adirondak on Saturday, before returning home to host Binghamton on Sunday.
